Building futures through financial literacy
Early in 2014, Investors Group and Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) launched a new program, Building Futures, to support teachers who want to integrate economic and financial learning into the existing grade 4–10 curriculum.
“There is no more important place to begin building a foundation of financial literacy than in our schools, where the priority is to prepare young people for the future,” said CFEE President and CEO Gary Rabbior, who spearheaded the initiatives.
Work is underway to have all program elements available in French, and to adapt the resources for use in Aboriginal communities as well. Canadian educators recognize the importance of financial literacy.
Building Futures is now expanding across the country: after officially launching in Manitoba, Saskatchewan is preparing for its own launch. Discussions are also underway with British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces.
